Continental Saffron - Quality Certificates

Continental Saffron Stigmas are picked from each flower by hand, to preserve their quality.
Saffron is dehydratated naturally: stigmas are exposed to the sun the same day of the collection,
and after this process the humidity level should be inferior to 10%.

During the dehydratation process, the stigmas lose most of their weight, so more than 100-150.000 flowers are needed to produce a single Kilo of Saffron.

After the collection, saffron is tested in our Labs in Iran before being packed and shipped.

Our Saffron comes only from biological cultivations.

We're proud of our biological cultivation, because we're growing up saffron plants following international regulated methods, which allow the use of natural fertilizers and pesticides and limit the employ of plant growth regulators, antibiotics or OGM.


Sustainability, safety and health are main values in our company: we strongly believe that organic farming is the best choice both for the genuineness of our products and for the environmental preservation.

Lab Analysis

Continental analyzes Saffron in its Itranian Labs in order to certify the quantity of some elements:

  • - Pricrocrocin, which is responsible of Saffron's taste
  • - Crocine and Crocetine which provide the color
  • - Safranal, which gives the aroma.
  • But Saffron's quality is also determined by external factors, such as humidity, flower's residues, foreign materials contained...
    For these reasons, for each lot, we always provide Lab analysis documents which certify the exact quantity of each of the elements above.

    These analysis are mass spectrometry and spectrophotometer. The first analyzes volatile substances; the second analyzes Safranal, Crocine and Picrocrocine.

    These tests are the best guarantee for our clients that can always check the quality of the exact product they asked for.

    So we won't give here generic values or ranges of values, but we can assure that every lot is tested in accordance to international laws before being shipped to clients worldwide.
